Join us for the special events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Center for Japanese Studies.
Dear Colleagues and Friends of CJS,

CJS Chair
Duncan Williams
Welcome back to Berkeley! After a wonderful gala dinner and benefit concert with The Yoshida Brothers that served as the kickoff event for CJS' 50th anniversary celebrations, we are happy to announce a full and very exciting lineup for the 2008-09 academic year.
This year will feature one major event a month that showcases the myriad ways in which Japan engages the world in arenas as far afield as anime, baseball, Buddhism, and food culture. Many of our events are built around prominent figures on the global stage such as the novelist Murakami Haruki (literature), Ogata Sadako (diplomacy), Ito Toyo (architecture), and Norman Mineta (Japan and Japanese America). We will also be collaborating with partners in Japan with CJS events in both Tokyo (the Berkeley-Todai Forum) and Kyoto (the Berkeley-Nichibunken Forum).
We hope the program has something for everyone. Please join us!
