Recent recipients of the Ph.D. in any discipline whose research focuses on China compete annually for two fellowships. The Center generally receives between sixty and seventy applications. The scholars chosen are expected to spend the academic year in residence at the Center and to revise a dissertation or other manuscript for publication in the Center's China Research Monograph Series or by the University of California Press.
