About the Fellowship: ACLS invites applications for the tenth annual competition for the Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Completion Fellowships, which support a year of research and writing to help advanced graduate students in the humanities and related social sciences in the last year of PhD dissertation writing. Japanese Studies Fellowship Program 2017

About the Fellowship: The Japan Foundation's Japanese Studies Fellowship Programs give scholars, researchers, and professionals the opportunity to conduct research in Japan to assist in the study and scholarship of Japanese culture and society. All research and doctoral projects should be substantially related to Japan in the humanities, social sciences, and/or comparative research. International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF) Program 2017

Term: Nine to twelve months.
About the Fellowship: The Mellon International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF) offers support to graduate students in the humanities and social sciences who are enrolled in PhD programs in the United States and conducting dissertation research on non-US topics. Eighty fellowships are awarded annually. Fellowship amounts vary depending on the research plan, with a per-fellowship average of $20,000. The fellowship includes participation in an SSRC-funded interdisciplinary workshop upon the completion of IDRF-funded research. For more information, go here.

Blakemore Freeman Fellowships for Advanced Asian Language Study

The Blakemore Freeman Fellowships fund an academic year of advanced language study abroad of Chinese, Japanese, Korean and selected Southeast Asian languages. An applicant must have (at minimum) a bachelor's degree and have completed at least three years of study of the language at the college level by the start of the grant. 2017 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program

Term: Four to six months
About the Fellowship: Grantees will conduct research in their area of specialization, and are expected to submit a publishable report about their research within six months after the end of the grant. Applicants must demonstrate how their research will contribute to the Japan-U.S. relationship in their field and to their own professional development. For more information, go here.
