Degree Programs in Southeast Asia Studies

The Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies offers an undergraduate major in South and Southeast Asian Studies.

The Department of South and Southeast Studies and the Group in Asian Studies offer graduate degrees that support specialization in Southeast Asian Studies. The Group in Asian Studies also offers joint master's degree programs with Berkeley Law School (M.A./J.D.) and the Graduate School of Journalism (M.A./M.J.).

Many Ph.D. programs, such as those in History, Anthropology, Music and Political Science, support a concentration on Southeast Asia within the major field. The Joint Medical Program, a five-year M.S./M.D. degree program, offered through UC Berkeley's School of Public Health and the UC San Francisco School of Medicine, allows students to pursue an area studies focus on Southeast Asia. The College of Environmental Design and the College of Natural Resources also have degree concentration options that can support a focus on Southeast Asia. Finally, the Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies program in the Department of Ethnic Studies offers courses in the study of the Southeast Asian diaspora in the U.S.
