Biography:
John (Song Pae) Cho is a lecturer in International and Area Studies. He is also a Social Science Research Council (non-residential) Transregional Fellow (2012-13) and an affiliated scholar with the Beatrice Bain Research Group, a critical feminist consortium at UC Berkeley. He is currently completing his book manuscript, "The Luxury of Love: Queer Intimacy, Internet, and Financial Insecurity in Post-IMF South Korea," for publication. Based on interviews with over 100 gay men and 24 months of virtual and offline field research in Seoul, South Korea, this manuscript is an ethnographic study of the obsessive pursuit of love by Korean gay men in their 30s and 40s — particularly through the Internet.
