Research Interests: Early China: seven centuries of Warring States through Eastern Han (475 BC-AD 220), with an emphasis on the sociopolitical context; aesthetic theories and material culture; and belief. Current book projects include a translation (in press) of Yang Xiong's Fayan; a book on Han Chang'an, with a focus on the reign of Han Chengdi, and a book on pleasure theory in early China.
