Graduation 2015

The Group in Asian Studies will host a graduation ceremony for all Fall 2014, Spring 2015 and Summer 2015 B.A. and M.A. graduates on Sunday, May 17, 2015, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Bancroft Hotel. Students are required to come at 9:30; guests can arrive at 10:30. Students get 10 free tickets, and you will receive an email when they are ready for pickup. This yearly event honors graduates of the Group in Asian Studies. The Ceremony will last for about an hour, followed by an appetizer reception in the Great Hall. Award winners for departmental citations, outstanding thesis, honors and other contributions will be announced at the event. It is a small and intimate celebration, and we highly encourage all graduates to attend.

Degree List

Students should place themselves on the spring degree list through the College of Letters and Science. Go to the L&S website and follow the instructions. You must run a degree audit report on Bearfacts to make sure that you have completed or in the process of completing all university and college requirements. To request a DARS report: 1) Go to Bearfacts and click the DARSweb link. 2) Click the "Audits" tab and select "Request New Audit." Select one of the following radio buttons: Current Major (the default) and Expanded Requirement Set to view all ways courses can apply toward 7-course breadth requirement in the College of Letters & Science. 3) Click the "Submit New Audit" button. Wait a few moments for your report to run, then click the "Refresh List" button. You may have to click it a few times and/or wait up to 30 seconds. 4) When your new request appears on the list below, click the "Open Audit" button to its left. You can ignore the section on "Major Requirements." AS does not use DARS to record "Major Requirements"; this is done by your academic advisor. Please consult your academic advisor immediately if you see discrepancies in the report.

Student Speaker Contest

Do you have words of wisdom you'd like to share with your fellow grads? Pithy comments to help celebrate your achievements and wish everyone well in the future? Then you should enter our STUDENT SPEAKER COMPETITION!

The Student Speaker is a vital part of the ceremony. In fact, some say it's the best part! The Student Speaker, one undergraduate and one graduate student, gives a 10 minute (max) presentation. If you would like to compete for this honor, first check your cumulative and major GPA: they must be at least 3.3 to be eligible. Then, submit a written speech no later than Friday, April 17 to asianst@berkeley.edu. The Group Chair and the graduation coordinator will determine the two speakers.

GradImages will be our official graduation photographer. They will take photos of each graduate while on stage. They will be given your name and contact information as previously approved by you. You can expect to have proofs emailed to you within two days of Graduation. Once you view your proofs, you can order directly from their website at gradimages.com.

Parking during graduation week is limited, so please arrive early. The closest lot to the Bancroft Hotel is the MLK Student Union underground garage. You can find a campus parking map here. For additional details, refer to information listed at Parking and Transportation.

Visitor Accommodations

Out-of-town guests can find lodging options at the Visitor Services website. Guests can also stay at a special rate at the Bancroft Hotel. Contact asianst@berkeley.edu for more information.

We want to make our graduation accessible to everyone. Therefore, if you or a guest need a special accommodation, such as a sign language interpreter or just extra time to get settled in, please let us know. You can email asianst@berkeley.edu no later than three weeks before the event.
