Graduation 2013

The Group in Asian Studies will host a graduation ceremony for all Fall 2012, Spring 2013 and Summer 2013 B.A. and M.A. graduates on Sunday, May 19, 2013, from 4:30-6:30 pm at the Bancroft Hotel. This yearly event honors graduates of the Group in Asian Studies. The Ceremony will last for about an hour, followed by a reception on the outside patio. Awards winners for departmental citations, outstanding thesis, honors and other contributions will be announced at the event. It is a small and intimate celebration, and we highly encourage all graduates to attend.

Degree List

Students should place themselves on the spring degree list through the College of Letters and Science. Go to the L&S website and follow the instructions. You must run a degree audit report on Bearfacts to make sure that you have completed or in the process of completing all university and college requirements. In addition, please go to the L&S advising office in 206 Evans Hall, and request a degree check from a college advisor.

Student Speaker Contest

Do you have words of wisdom you'd like to share with your fellow grads? Pithy comments to help celebrate your achievements and wish everyone well in the future? Then you should enter our STUDENT SPEAKER COMPETITION!

The Student Speaker is a vital part of the ceremony. In fact, some say it's the best part! The Student Speaker, one undergraduate and one graduate student, gives a 10 minute (max) presentation. If you would like to compete for this honor, first check your cumulative and major GPA: they must be at least 3.3 to be eligible. Then, submit a written speech no later than Friday, April 19 to asianst@berkeley.edu. The Group Chair and the graduation coordinator will determine the two speakers.

Photos

GradImages will be our official graduation photographer. They will take photos of each graduate while on stage. They will be given your name and contact information as previously approved by you. You can expect to have proofs emailed to you within two days of Graduation. Once you view your proofs, you can order directly from their website at gradimages.com.

Parking during graduation week is limited, so please arrive early. The closest lot to the Bancroft Hotel is the MLK Student Union underground garage. You can find a campus parking map here. For additional details, refer to information listed at Parking and Transportation.
