The Institute of East Asian Studies (IEAS) at the University of California, Berkeley invites mid-career professionals in the fields of business, law, government, industry and other public institutions to become Fellows at the IEAS for a period of several months to one year. Fellows will use their time in residence at the Institute to broaden their perspectives on East Asia-related subjects and to pursue their career development goals through the resources available at the Institute and the campus.
Fellows should typically be nominated by their institution and must provide a plan of research and/or study that is appropriate to an appointment at the IEAS and the University of California. Fellows will be granted office, library and internet access, housing assistance and other services from the Institute. For Fellows from abroad, the Institute will coordinate the process to obtain the necessary visas.
The IEAS Fellows Program is designed to be flexible in order to meet the needs of potential Fellows. Normally, Fellows will pursue independent research, audit classes, attend IEAS lectures, seminars and colloquia, and will interact with faculty and the community of East Asian scholars at Berkeley. Fellows need not possess a Ph.D. They must have substantial professional experience and be in a position to benefit from the academic resources offered by the IEAS and the Berkeley campus. Fellows must have the support and backing of their home institution.
