Berkeley China Initiative logo

The Berkeley China Initiative brings together UC Berkeley's exceptional resources to strengthen research and teaching about China across all disciplines and professions, forge new international partnerships, and enrich public life by communicating those results.

To accomplish this, we have undertaken a new funding initiative to strengthen several key areas of China Studies at Berkeley. Learn more about this initiative and BCI here.

Visiting Scholars

Introduction

Scholars in the China field from throughout the world tender applications for Visiting Scholar status at the Center. These honorary affiliates are chosen on the strength of their research projects and the ability of the faculty or library resources on the Berkeley campus to meet their research needs. Scholars generally remain at the Center for six months to two years, and are expected to complete the project they originally proposed. They are also to participate regularly in the Center's scholarly life and academic programs. These scholars are granted basic access to the university library system, limited photocopy and mailing privileges, and shared office space, if available.
