CJS and IEAS offer 2010 Japan America Student Conference scholarships

The Center for Japanese Studies, in partnership with the Institute of East Asian Studies, announces its Japan-America Student Conference scholarships for UC undergraduates. Awards are open to any undergraduate student with an interest in Japan who otherwise meets the criteria of the JASC program. The JASC program, now in its 62nd year, is a student-led cultural and academic exchange program that brings together 40 Japanese and 40 American students together to discuss issues facing the two countries. No Japanese language training is necessary.

This year the month-long conference takes place in Indiana, New Orleans, Washington DC and San Francisco, July 23 through August 21, 2010.

Thanks to recent donor gift, there will be two scholarships of $3000 awarded, each covering the entire cost of the summer program, including airfare.

For the JASC program and application materials, see: http://www.iscdc.org/. The deadline to apply to JASC is March 19, 2010, and applications should be submitted directly to JASC in Washington D.C.

To apply for the CJS/IEAS scholarships, students should submit a copy of their JASC application, by hard copy or by e-mail (PDF format preferred), to the Center for Japanese Studies by Friday, March 19, 2010.
