Student Groups

CJS sponsors study groups for graduate students: Aobakai, Kinyu-kai, and a study group on Japanese Politics.

Aobakai

Aobakai is an annual student-initiated colloquium for Japanese studies. The aim of the event is to enhance students' learning experiences and develop a basis of community support. This year's Aobakai Conference is scheduled for Friday, April 18th, 2008. This will be a unique opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students to present their original research on Japan-related topics and receive feedback from friends, colleagues and professors. Please see the "Call for Papers" announcement for more details. If you have questions concerning Aobakai's activities or the upcoming conference, please email Cary Karacas (ckaracas@berkeley.edu).

Kinyu-kai

Kinyu-kai is a monthly discussion-oriented group of Japanese graduate students and visiting scholars. The discussion topics range from economics, sociology, public policy to other broad social science fields.

Japanese Politics Study Group

Japanese Politics Study Group is a forum for the study of Japanese politics, broadly defined. The group welcomes scholars of Japanese politics to visit and discuss their ideas with graduate students and faculty from throughout the Bay Area.
