Application Deadline: March 1, 2025 by 11:59pm PDT

Incomplete and late applications will NOT be considered.

Purpose and Description:

The IEAS Undergraduate Research Award program supports juniors and sophomores who are interested in pursuing research opportunities related to East Asia and Southeast Asia with a particular focus on Humanities and Social Science, such as in preparation for a senior thesis or other major capstone project. Cross-national and interdisciplinary projects are strongly encouraged. Up to eight awards will be awarded in 2025 on a competitive basis.

Award recipients will be required to submit a full paper (10-15 pages, double spaced) on their proposed research topic on or before April 1, 2026. These papers will be evaluated and ranked by a faculty committee. The highest ranking recipient will receive an extra prize award of $500. Additionally, recipients will be required to present their papers at a mini-conference which will be held in late spring, 2026, where faculty members and donors will be invited to attend and celebrate the recipients' achievements.

Award recipients are encouraged to submit their final papers to the Berkeley Undergraduate Journal

This program was made possible by donations raised through the IEAS Big Give Campaign
