The 31st quarterly issue of our open-access e-journal Cross-Currents: East Asian History and Culture Review is now online.

July 23, 2019

This special issue on “Buddhist Art in Mongolia,” guest edited by Uranchimeg Tsultemin, brings together four research articles and two photos essays that address the specific qualities of Mongolian Buddhist artworks by placing them in the historical, political, and social context of Inner Asia, and specifically the Tibet-Mongolia interface. In addition to this themed set of contributions, this issue also features three articles on the origins of Cambodia's Marxist vision, the Chinese writer Xiao Hong, and the female knight-errant character in Chinese martial arts tales. This issue also includes reviews of ten new and recent Asian studies publications, including a Korean-language book on the history of Korea's sugar industry.
