In a radically interconnected world, my research focuses on how educational desires have turned towards the global. More specifically, I situate my research in rapidly urbanizing spaces in China, where urban development and the growth of international schools have gone hand in hand. I looked towards CCS for help in funding preliminary fieldwork in order to visit potential fieldsites and immerse myself in the material spaces and contexts where I can build sustainable trust and rapport with informants for my ethnographic case study. While travel restrictions with COVID-19 hindered such plans, I was able to support myself in the Bay Area while establishing contacts and interviewing through zoom, Wechat, and other digital platforms with the generous support from CCS. CCS has enabled me to take the first step in deepening my understandings of the processes of making global schools in cities.
