Japan America Student Conference Scholarships

Deadline: December 31, 2020

The Center for Japanese Studies grants full scholarships to the Japan-American Student Conference(link is external) for Berkeley undergraduate and graduate students. Awards are open to any full-time student with an interest in Japan.

The Japan-America Student Conference (JASC) is a student-led exchange program, initiated in 1934 by university students concerned by the breakdown of bilateral relations prior to the Second World War. Today, an equal number of students from the U.S. and Japan are competitively selected each year to spend one summer month together, studying and analyzing Japan-U.S. relations while visiting four diverse regions in the host country. JASC alternates its host country every year, emphasizing the personal connections between two distinct cultures gathered together in one place.

The 73rd JASC Conference will take place in Kyoto, Aomori, Fukushima and Kyoto from August 2 - 20, 2021.

For the JASC program and application materials, see: http://www.iscdc.org/(link is external). The deadline to apply to JASC is December 11, 2020, and applications should be submitted directly to JASC in Washington D.C.

Thanks to a recent donor gift, CJS offers two scholarships in the amount of $3,500 each to UC Berkeley applicants. To apply for the CJS scholarships, students should submit a screenshot of their JASC application by e-mail (PDF format preferred) to the Center for Japanese Studies by December 31, 2020.

Scholarship applications must include all components of the online JASC application:
