Deadline: February 1, 2020
The Center for Japanese Studiesgrants full scholarships to the Japan-American Student Conference for Berkeley undergraduate and graduate students. Awards are open to any full-time student with an interest in Japan.
The Japan-America Student Conference (JASC) is a student-led exchange program, initiated in 1934 by university students concerned by the breakdown of bilateral relations prior to the Second World War. Today, an equal number of students from the U.S. and Japan are competitively selected each year to spend one summer month together, studying and analyzing Japan-U.S. relations while visiting four diverse regions in the host country. JASC alternates its host country every year, emphasizing the personal connections between two distinct cultures gathered together in one place.
The 72nd JASC Conference will take place in Los Angeles, CA, Tucson, AZ, and Indiana, from July 24 - August 17, 2020.
Thanks to a recent donor gift, CJS offers two scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each to UC Berkeley applicants. To apply for the CJS scholarships, students should submit a copy of their JASC application, by hard copy or by e-mail (PDF format preferred), to the Center for Japanese Studies by February 1, 2020
Scholarship applications must include all components of the online JASC application:
- A personal statement
- A statement of purpose
