Major Merlin Boone is a Senior Instructor of International Affairs at the United States Military Academy, West Point, and a U.S. Fulbright Scholar and Global Taiwan Institute Taiwan Scholar. As a U.S. Army Foreign Area Officer (FAO) specializing in the Asia-Pacific, he focuses on geopolitical competition, regional security, and the U.S.-China relationship. Previously, he served as a U.S. Army Special Operations Civil Affairs Officer, with operational experience in Syria and across the Asia-Pacific.
Merlin is a PhD candidate at Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs, where his research explores modern geopolitical competition, economic statecraft, and East Asian security relations. He holds a Master’s in Public Affairs from Princeton University, a Master’s in International and Public Affairs from the University of Hong Kong, and a dual-major Bachelor’s degree in Economics (Honors) and Chinese from the United States Military Academy, West Point.
