PKU Summer Program Route 2

Route Two: From July 5 to July 19, 2025, the second cohort will visit Beijing, Yinchuan and Zhongwei (in Ningxia Province), Xi’an (in Shaanxi Province), and Chengdu (in Sichuan Province)

Participants should plan to arrive at PKU on July 5, 2025.

Program Highlights

Beijing

  • Lectures by PKU professors on China’s development and globalization.

  • Visit the Great Wall, the Palace Museum, and state-owned enterprises.

Yinchuan and Zhongwei, Ningxia Province

Yinchuan, a multicultural city, is known for its fertile lands. Zhongwei, renowned for its natural beauty, features the Yellow River, the Helan Mountains, and the Tengger Desert.  

  • Visit Mining Town to learn about the Fujian-Ningxia partnership, established over two decades ago as part of a poverty alleviation initiative that relocated entire communities to more fertile areas along the Yellow River.  

  • Explore the wine industry at Lilan Winery, highlighting its unique characteristics.  

  • Visit the Shapotou Tourist and Scenic Zone, known as the "Deserts Capital of the World," recognized for its stunning natural landscapes and desert management achievements.  

  • Experience the desert landscape through activities such as sand sliding, ziplining, and sheepskin rafting, an ancient mode of transportation along the Yellow River.

Xi’an, Shaanxi Province

  • Visit the Terracotta Warriors and the National Archaeological Site Park of Qin Shihuang, exploring the symbol of a unified civilization.  

  • Cycle along the ancient city wall of Xi’an, enjoying views of the Bell Tower and Drum Tower, which marked the city's historical center.  

  • Visit LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd., a leading solar technology company, to learn about its advancements in solar energy.  

  • Enjoy a night tour of Xi’an.

Chengdu, Sichuan Province 

  • Visit the Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding to experience the home of the pandas.  

  • Tour the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, a UNESCO World Heritage site.  

  • Explore the Sanxingdui Museum, showcasing artifacts from an archaeological site on UNESCO's tentative World Heritage list.  

  • Visit Sichuan Shu Dao Expressway Group Co., Ltd. to understand the role of transportation in Sichuan’s development.  

  • Experience local Chengdu culture by enjoying tea in a tea house, sampling Sichuan cuisine, especially hotpot, and participating in ear cleaning.  

  • Attend a “Bian Lian” show, a traditional Sichuan opera performance featuring face-changing artistry.
