Japan America Student Conference Scholarships
CJS offers 2025 JASC Scholarships
JASC Application Deadline: December 27, 2024 | CJS Scholarship Deadline: December 31, 2024
The Center for Japanese Studies grants full scholarships to the Japan-American Student Conference for Berkeley undergraduate and graduate students. Awards are open to any full-time student with an interest in Japan.
The Japan-America Student Conference (JASC) is a student-led exchange program, initiated in 1934 by university students concerned by the breakdown of bilateral relations prior to the Second World War. Today, an equal number of students from the U.S. and Japan are competitively selected each year to spend one summer month together, studying and analyzing Japan-U.S. relations while visiting diverse regions in the host country. JASC alternates its host country every year, emphasizing the personal connections between two distinct cultures gathered together in one place.
The 77th JASC Conference will take place in Japan, visiting Kyoto, Osaka, Kumamoto, and Toyko from July 31 to August 21, 2025. The American orientation will take place from July 27, 2025.
For the 77th JASC program, see: https://iscdc.org/jasc/. To apply, please see https://iscdc.org/jasc/77th-jasc-applications/. The deadline to apply to JASC is December 27, 2024, and applications should be submitted directly to JASC in Washington D.C.
Thanks to a generous donor gift, CJS offers two scholarships in the amount of $3,500 each to UC Berkeley applicants. To apply for the CJS scholarships, students should submit a screenshot of their JASC application by e-mail (PDF format preferred) to the Center for Japanese Studies by December 31, 2024.
