The Winner of The UC Berkeley Hong Yung Lee Book Award in Korean Studies

The University of California at Berkeley is hiring a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in the Islamic Worlds of Southeast Asia, in the Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies.

Weihong Bao, Associate Professor of Film & Media and East Asian Languages & Cultures, has been appointed to the Pamela P. Fong and Family Distinguished Chair in China Studies. Please refer to this link for more details. 

Ambassador Julia Chang Bloch Fellowship

The Ambassador Julia Chang Bloch Fellowship comprises two distinct programs: the "Ambassador Julia Chang Bloch Fellow of Political Science '' and the "Ambassador Julia Chang Bloch Fellow of East Asian Studies," each provides one fellow with $2,000 of funding. The Fellowship program aims to provide interested students, especially those of AAPI heritage, with financial support to conduct academic research focused on political/social/cultural/economic aspects of East Asia. 

Taiwan Plus explores the dynamics of #TaiwaneseIdentity with the help of Christina Hu, a director at the Taiwanese American Citizens League, and Evan Dawley, a researcher of Taiwanese and East Asian history, identity formation and imperialism at Goucher College. Dawley is also a memebr of the second cohort of the U.S.-Taiwan Next Generation Working Group.

We are pleased to welcome Professor Osmund Bopearachchi (CNRS, France) at UC Berkeley this academic year, under the auspices of the Numata Center for Buddhist Studies.

Prof. Lisandro E. Claudio is the new Chair of the Center for Southeast Asia Studies, following Prof. Nancy Lee Peluso, who served as Chair since July 2020. CSEAS extends deep thanks to Prof. Peluso in appreciation of her guidance of the Center and achievements in supporting Southeast Asia Studies at Berkeley, especially during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. With much excitement, CSEAS extends further thanks to Prof.

Dr. Dalferro received her Ph.D. in Anthropology from Cornell University in 2021. Her dissertation examined silk production in Thailand, in particular among communities of Khmer silk producers in Surin province.
