As an archaeologist working on Hokkaido, accessing data that is stored in Japan is paramount to the advancement of my research. Thanks to the generous support from the Center of Japanese Studies I was able to travel to Sapporo on two occasions and work at a laboratory extracting ancient plant materials from soil samples.
A Lim Fellowship from CCS allowed me to smoothly wrap up my archival work in China for my dissertation project, tentatively titled "Whither Socialism? Workers’ Democracy and the Class Politics of Reform in China’s Early Post-Mao Transition".
The Republic of China East Asian Fellowship provided me with the opportunity to further my research on nationalism and identity in China. The fellowship provided me with the necessary financial support and resources to conduct pilot studies, which helped me to refine my methodology and better understand the cultural context of my research.

I used my fellowship to carry out research on ancient Tibetan manuscripts and present my findings at an important conference in my field, the International Association of Buddhist Studies. There I was able to receive feedback that has been invaluable to my PhD dissertation project.
