[On the founding of BJSN]
The Berkeley Japanese Studies Network (BJSN) is a network of visiting scholars at the Center for Japanese Studies (CJS) at UC Berkeley.
Each year, many visiting scholars from Japan and around the world come to Berkeley to conduct research. During their stay, they actively interact with other scholars. Even after they return to their home countries, they continue to build relationships in Japan and at Berkeley, forming a unique network that crosses disciplinary and institutional boundaries.
To continue this kind of intellectual exchange, we have decided to hold regular academic meetings. We hope that these meetings will continue year after year, as the 2nd, 3rd, etc.,and that they will enrich the future research of the CJS visiting scholars.

バークレー日本研究ネットワーク（BJSN）は、UCバークレー東アジア研究所、日本研究
センターの客員研究員を中心としたネットワークです。
バークレーには、毎年多くの客員研究員が日本をはじめ世界中からやってきて、研究活動
に従事しています。その期間中には、研究者間の活発な交流が行われています。また、帰
国後も日本やバークレーでの関係が続いており、分野や組織を越えたユニークなネットワ
ークを形成しています。
このたび、こうした研究交流を継続的に行うことを目的に、定期的な研究会を開催するこ
とになりました。この研究会が、第2回、第3回・・・と毎年続いていくことで、CJS客員
研究員の今後の研究を一層豊かにしていければと願っています。
